What is the duration of the course?
The optimum ‘contact time’ for this training programme is seen as 16 hours over 2 consecutive days.
What are the entry requirements?
No pre-requisites are required.
Training contains physically
demanding and potentially stressful
elements. All personnel who
participate in such training must
be medically fit and capable of participating fully. Delegates must either:
1. Possess a valid operator-approved medical certificate; or
2. Complete a GSS medical screening form prior to attendance
What does the course cover?
The aim of the course is to make
operatives fully conversant in
the operation of the Gotcha CRD
(Control Rate Descender) Rescue Kit
and it’s various modes of use. The
course will enable operatives to;
1. Use the rescue kit in a variety of modes to rescue a casualty from the cab (Operator) and rescue from jib of a tower crane (Erector / Maintenance)
2. Recover casualties using their harness, casualty harness and stretcher.
3. Use guided systems to move the casualty away from the tower crane during decent

1. Understand the legislation surrounding work at height and how this relates to them
2. Understand the categories for safe work at height and the potential loads imposed on the equipment used
3. Explain a Work Restraint System and it’s potential use
4. Explain a Work Position System and it’s potential use
5. Explain a Fall Arrest System and it’s potential use
6. Understand equipment standards and how they relate to user demands and their expectations
7. Understand he importance of pre use inspections and checks
How is the course assessed?
The 'SPANSET UK Approved - Tower Crane Rescue' course involves both classroom and practical physical tuition, with a strong emphasis on practical rescues conducted under the safe supervision of an instructor. Delegates are continually assessed throughout the course.
