Course Description
This OPITO Approved Authorised Gas Tester Training course is for those who require meeting the initial training and knowledge assessment requirements to work as Authorised Gas Testers.
It is intended for personnel working across the energy sector with no previous experience as gas testers, as well as experienced gas testers needing to function as authorised gas testers.
What certificate will i receive?
Upon successful completion of the course, Learners will be awarded with an OPITO certificate and card.
Cards and certificates can be verified through our website or through the OPITO Vantage System and TRAIN-R App.
All cards and certificates will be issued immediately to learners. Digital copies are available upon request.
Learners will have the option to complete the practical units and outcomes within 3 months. Those completing the practical will receive a 9240 OPITO Approved Authorised Gas Tester Certificate.
What is the duration of the course?
The optimum ‘contact time’ for this training programme is seen as 16 hours.
What are the entry requirements?
There are no pre-requisites for this training course.
Medical Requirements
Training contains physically demanding and potentially stressful elements. All personnel who participate in such training must be medically fit and capable of participating fully.
Learners must:
1.Complete a GSS medical screening form prior to attendance.
What does the course cover?
The aim and objectives of the training are to ensure that the learner gains the required knowledge and practical skills to conduct gas tests for oxygen levels, flammable and toxic gases safely. This training also equips the learner with knowledge to conduct gas testing within confined spaces and awareness of associated confined space hazards. Learners will also learn about relevant legislative requirements, gas measuring and monitoring equipment and documenting gas test results.
How is the course assessed?
Learners will be given a written test which will allow them to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding.
Learners will be assessed through direct observation during their practicals.
